Friday September 23: The city is bracing for a major weather event. Some forecasts were calling for 16" to 20" inches of rain, as the eye of the storm was expected to stall right on top of Texarkana.
The lines at the gas stations were long but seemed to be organized. We were told at Murpy's on Arkansas Boulevard that no one was limited on the amount of gasoline they could purchase and that 4 gasoline trucks made deliveries to them on Friday.
The same was true at the grocery store. While there seemed to be a frantic mood in the air, citizens were patient and polite.
Water seemed to be a big concern, as some shelves were empty.
While our city had been needing rain badly, most people were concerned about flooding, wind and power outages.
Saturday September 24: The storm hits.
While many trees were blown over, the police and city crews were out in force.
We at exploretexarkana.com want to express our gratitude to the city employees who spent days preparing for the storm and to those who faced the weather headon to keep the streets clear and safe.
Monday September 26: Luckily, the storm blew through the city and didn't linger and crews were out Monday cleaning up the mess.
I for one feel fortunate that there are so many dedicated people in our city.
I am proud to be a citizen of Texarkana, the city that is, "Twice as nice."
