the plane trip

Just one word to describe the plane trip, lonnnggg....

The flight from Dallas to Honolulu is 8 hours long. Take some snacks and plenty of reading material. If you like crosswords, as I do, take some along. I also advise getting up and walking down the aisle once in a while to keep the circulation going. The flight attendents offered earphones for the movie for $2 and I was glad I bought a pair because not only could I listen to the movie but they also had some T.V. programming, for what it was worth. I also kept the earphones for the return trip. Sound grueling? Well don`t worry we found the plane trip to be well worth it.

lanai view

This is the view from our veranda or as the Hawaiians call it the lanai. What a view!! Quite a change from Texarkana, huh? Not that we don`t love Texarkana , but I think you can see what I mean. We didn`t use much air conditioning, just opened the door to the ocean breeze. My advice is , don`t plan much on the fisrt day, as you`ll probably experience some jet lag. There is a 5 hour time difference from Texarkana so we were in bed by 8:30 their time. We woke up the next day feeling refreshed and ready to explore!!

Hawaii is tropical and it rained several times while we were there, but we didn`t feel the need for an umbrella. You can usually see the clouds coming and manage  to duck for cover for only a few minutes at a time.

There is a lot to see and do.

You will not be able to see and do it all in one visit. Here is where I would like to give you some very good advice. Don`t panic and don`t feel pressured. This is a vacation, so just make a list of all the things you would like to see and do and don`t worry about it. I witnessed some people getting stressed out and worrying about being able to book tours and shows .

You will be offered brochures on the streets from people. As a matter of fact brochures and booklets on tours and events are everywhere. Gather some up. Maybe while you`re strolling around the neighborhood. Then take them back to your room and peruse them and decide what you`d like to do. Make a list, and pick and choose. We managed to do just about everything on our list, but if we couldn`t do it one day we would just schedule it for the next.

We rented a car on our last full day there and saw some great sights. That`s just the way we did it. You can see Hawaii any way you choose, but don`t forget the free things like a walk on the beach at sunrise or sunset. ENJOY!!
